New Chapters is our flourishing online second-hand book business – with a difference.
The busy 3,000 square-foot warehouse enables people we support to take their first step into paid work, regardless of how complex their needs may be. Working side-by-side with a team of volunteers, they run the business: sorting stock, scanning books and processing orders.
As well as picking up vital practical skills in IT literacy and customer service, they gain great insight into the world of work: learning the importance of punctuality, responsibility, and interacting with their colleagues. The experience and skillsets gained through working at New Chapters gives them the confidence to explore work prospects beyond the Kisharon Langdon community.
New Chapters also offers work experience to our college students and other young adults with learning disabilities to enable them to gain employment skills in a safe and supported environment.
New Chapters is not only life-changing but also successful. The profits generated by our hard-working team go straight back into running the enterprise, giving more people with additional needs the opportunity to develop skills that can pave the way to paid employment in the future.
